Stryd is designed to measure power when running, and will also work for power hiking while trail running. Stryd needs to get out of power saving mode, which requires a cadence higher than 120 SPM (i.e. jog at 5+ mph) for about a minute.
Every sport has its own unique dynamics — we’re just focusing on running and walking for right now. Stryd will not work well for soccer, ski-touring, basketball, etc.
