Power Duration Curve: why your actual run data can exceed your modeled ability.

Stryd keeps track of all your runs, and the hardest workouts are used to model your ability. You can switch the modeled ability curve on or off. We grab all your data and create a smooth curve. 

There is a particular scenario where your actual run data exceeds your modeled ability. This does not significantly affect your estimated power for any duration, it just looks a bit odd in the graph.

The reason for this is that we pick a discrete number of durations to create the curve. As an example (these are not actual durations used by the model), we may pick your max. power at 5 minutes and again at 10 minutes. If your maximum power at these times was not a maximum effort, you could conceivably do a high-intensity run for 7 minutes that exceeds your modeled ability. 

Below is an example where the actual power was 322 watts, but the modeled ability was only 304 watts:
