Short explanation:
1. You only need to use the Stryd Zones data field to get power data from Stryd. No connections in the Sensor & Accessory menu are necessary for this.
2. If you would like to get pace/distance from Stryd, you should connect Stryd as an ANT+ foot pod and specifically configure this connection
3. If you would like to use a third party data field such as Run Power and you have a multi-sport watch that support bike power meters., you should connect Stryd as an ANT+ power pod. Otherwise, you should pair but disable this connection.
Note: Not all running watches support an ANT+ power pod. That is OK. Stryd Zones data field and Stryd will work regardless of whether you can pair Stryd as an ANT+ power pod or not. This is an optional connection.
Long explanation:
The Garmin watch can connect to Stryd in four different ways in the Sensor & Accessory menu:
1. Stryd connected as a BLE power meter sensor.
2. Stryd connected as an ANT+ power meter sensor.
3. Stryd connected as a BLE foot pod sensor.
4. Stryd connected as an ANT+ foot pod sensor.
BLE POWER
If Stryd is connected as a BLE power meter sensor, it will connect as PWR - Stryd. Your watch may prompt you to make this connect, however it is not really necessary. You should either disconnect this sensor connection or turn it off.
ANT+ POWER
If Stryd is connected as an ANT+ power meter sensor, it will connect as PWR - XXXX where XXXX is an ANT+ ID. You should only connect Stryd this way if you use a third party data field such as Run Power. However, if you do not use a third party data field such as Run Power, there is no good reason to make this connection. You can disconnect this sensor connection or turn it off if this is the case.
BLE FOOT POD
If Stryd is connected as a BLE foot pod sensor, it will connect as FP - Stryd. Your watch may prompt you to make this connect, however it is not really necessary. You should either disconnect this sensor connection or turn it off.
ANT+ FOOT POD
If Stryd is connected an an ANT+ foot pod sensor, it will connect as FP - XXXX where XXXX is an ANT+ ID. You should only connect Stryd this way if you want pace/distance from Stryd in the outdoor or indoor case. However, if you prefer to get pace/distance from GPS or if you do not run indoors, there is no good reason to make this connection. You can disconnect this sensor connection or turn it off if this is the case.
Here are the connections you should make in the Sensor & Accessory menu:
1. FP- XXXX (where XXXX is the ANT+ ID): Pair and connect to get pace/distance from Stryd.
2. PWR - XXXX (where XXXX is the ANT+ ID): Pair and connect to enable a third party data field such as RunPower. Otherwise, if you are not using a third party data field such as run power, you should pair and disable. This connection only applies to multi-sport watches.
3. FP - STRYD: Pair but disable. You should pair and disable so you are not prompted in the future to make the connection. This connect only applies to watches with Bluetooth sensor pairings.
4. PWR - STRYD: Pair but disable. You should pair and disable so you are not prompted in the future to make the connection. This connection only applies to multi-sport watches with Bluetooth sensor pairings.
