Apple Watches starting with Apple Watch 3 are fully compatible with Stryd. This article will cover what 'full compatibility' means exactly, and introduce you to the Stryd app for Apple Watch.
In addition, Stryd has announced a membership (free until the first half of 2021) which adds training plans, guided workouts and additional analytics to your Stryd experience.
What is 'Full Compatibility' with Stryd?
Whether you're considering Stryd for power-based training and racing, or simply interested in the most consistent pace and distance you can get, not every watch enjoys full functionality with Stryd (though we try our best). So what is full compatibility?
1) Pace and distance from Stryd with GPS enabled
This means that your watch will receive pace and distance from Stryd, while still picking up your GPS path (and showing it post-run).
Stryd's watch app shows all your favorite metrics, plus Power. You can set power targets, choose different averaging (real-time, 3sec, 10sec, etc.), and get auditory and haptic feedback.
3) Stryd+ metrics
When your Apple Watch syncs with the Stryd app after your run, you'll also have access to a variety of other unique metrics measured directly from the foot: form power, ground contact time, leg spring stiffness, vertical oscillation, and wind power.
4) Stryd Structured Workouts
Stryd training plans are delivered via the 'workout' list in the main menu of the Stryd app. It updates regularly when in contact with your phone. Simply sign up for a training plan in the app and get started! You can also import workouts from Training Peaks, Final Surge, and 2Peak! Stryd members also have the option to custom build any power based workout they can imagine!
Please note that the original Apple Watch (version 1) does not work with the Stryd app. Apple Watch 2 is fully compatible, but is no longer receiving regular updates.
